QD Clinic

Lip Fillerin Gangnam, Seoul

Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid (HA) to add gentle volume, shape and definition to the lips. A soft, cohesive gel can build a little fullness, refine the lip border and improve balance between the upper and lower lip. Because HA holds water, it can also make thin or dry-looking lips appear smoother and more hydrated. At QD Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, we plan the shape with you first, then place small amounts precisely. A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes, and some swelling is normal at first. (Results vary by individual.)

Lip filler adds subtle volume and a defined border.

Who it’s for

  • Thin lips you would like to add subtle volume to
  • An indistinct lip border you would like to define
  • Uneven balance between the upper and lower lip
  • Lips that look dry or flat and could look smoother

Lips are dynamic and swell more than other areas at first, so the final shape shows after swelling settles. A natural, balanced look is planned with you. Suitability is confirmed during consultation.

How it works

HA filler adds volume where it is placed and is gradually absorbed over time. In the lips, the doctor uses a soft, cohesive gel and places small amounts with a fine needle or cannula — into the body of the lip for volume, or as tiny microdroplets along the vermilion border for definition. Placing border filler in the right layer helps keep the outline crisp without spreading into the skin above. Because the lips move constantly, the shape is built conservatively and reviewed as it settles. HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if an adjustment is needed. (Results vary by individual.)

THE MECHANISM, STEP BY STEP

  • 01Water-holding, soft gel

Hyaluronic acid binds water, so a soft, cohesive gel adds gentle volume and can make thin or dry-looking lips appear smoother and more hydrated.

  • 02Body for volume, border for definition

Small amounts go into the body of the lip for fullness, or as tiny microdroplets along the vermilion border for a crisp edge, placed with a fine needle or cannula in the right layer.

  • 03Immediate, but shaped conservatively

Volume shows right away, but the lips swell more than other areas at first, so the shape is built gradually and reviewed as it settles over about 1–2 weeks.

  • 04Temporary and reversible

Over the following months the body gradually breaks the HA down, so the effect is not permanent — and it can be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

What the procedure is like

  1. 1Consultation and planning of lip shape and balance
  2. 2Cleansing and topical numbing for comfort
  3. 3Small amounts of HA placed by fine needle or cannula
  4. 4Review of shape and aftercare guidance

Time: A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes.

Recovery & aftercare

  • Little downtime, but the lips usually swell for the first 24–48 hours and can look bigger than the final result.
  • Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising may occur and usually settles within about 1–2 weeks.
  • Avoid very hot food, intense exercise and saunas for a day or two, and follow the aftercare we provide.

What to expect over time

A general guide to how the days and months after treatment usually unfold. Results vary by individual.

  1. DAY 0 Treatment day

Volume shows immediately, and the lips usually swell for the first 24–48 hours and can look bigger than the final result.

  2. DAY 1-3 Early swelling settles

Most of the early swelling eases within 24–48 hours, and any bruising begins to fade.

  3. WEEK 1-2 True shape appears

Swelling resolves and the real, settled shape of the lips becomes clear. (Results vary by individual.)

  4. 6-12 MONTHS Duration

Because the lips move a lot, HA here often lasts around 6–12 months, usually shorter than deeper areas. (Results vary by individual.)

  5. TOP-UP Review & maintenance

Your doctor reviews the result and, if appropriate, discusses timing for a top-up based on your lips.

Sessions & results

Volume shows right away, and the true shape appears after swelling settles over about 1–2 weeks. Because the lips move a lot, HA here often lasts around 6–12 months, usually shorter than deeper areas. A top-up is discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

How it compares

These change the lips in different ways and suit different goals — filler adds volume and definition, while the other options use fat or surgery. The right choice is decided after we plan the shape with you.

Safety & considerations

Possible reactions

  • Marked swelling for the first 24–48 hours, redness or a feeling of fullness
  • Tenderness or bruising at the injection points
  • Small lumps or slight unevenness, which usually settle or can be smoothed
  • A cold-sore flare in people prone to them; very rarely, filler affecting a blood vessel — which needs prompt medical attention

When to take extra care

  • A history of cold sores (herpes) around the mouth — tell your doctor, as prevention may be advised
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — let us know at consultation
  • Active skin infection, inflammation or a breakout around the lips

  • Previous lip filler, a bleeding tendency or blood-thinning medication — tell your doctor

Frequently asked questions

  • The aim is a subtle, balanced shape, so small amounts are used and built gradually. Lips swell at first and settle over about 1–2 weeks, and HA can be adjusted or dissolved if needed. (Results vary by individual.)

  • The lips are soft and move a lot, so they hold more fluid after injection. Most of the early swelling settles within 24–48 hours, with the final shape by about 1–2 weeks.

  • Yes. Tiny microdroplets along the vermilion border can sharpen the outline with little added fullness. The approach is decided at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

  • A topical anesthetic is applied first, and many lip fillers contain a local anesthetic. Most people feel brief stinging or pressure. Comfort options are discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

  • Often around 6–12 months, usually shorter than deeper areas because the lips move so much. A top-up is discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

Often considered together

Treatments that are sometimes planned alongside this one, decided at consultation.

Chin Filler

Balancing the lips with the chin is common for lower-face proportion.

Marionette Line Filler

Supporting the mouth corners can complement lip shaping.

Botulinum toxin

A small dose can soften lines around the mouth or gently evert the lip (a lip flip); it is planned separately from filler.
