QD Clinic

Chin Fillerin Gangnam, Seoul

Chin filler uses a firm hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to project and balance the chin. Adding volume at the tip can lengthen a short chin, improve the side profile, and help the lower face look more proportioned to the nose and lips. It can also soften the small dips beside the chin. Placed deep against the bone, a firmer gel gives structure and support. At QD Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, we assess your profile first, then decide the product and amount. A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes with little downtime. (Results vary by individual.)

Chin filler projects and balances the chin in profile.

Who it’s for

  • A short or receding chin you would like to project
  • A side profile you would like to balance with the nose and lips
  • A rounded chin you would like to define slightly
  • Small dips beside the chin (prejowl) you would like to soften

The chin works together with the jawline and the whole profile, so we plan it in balance with the lower face. Very large changes may be better suited to surgery. Suitability is confirmed during consultation.

How it works

HA filler adds volume where it is placed and is gradually absorbed over time. For the chin, the doctor usually places a firm, high-support gel deep against the bone at the tip (pogonion) to project it forward or downward, and may use a cannula in the layer above to smooth the surface and soften the grooves beside the chin. Because the chin moves less than the lips, a firmer gel here tends to hold its shape and last well. HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if an adjustment is needed. Product and amount are matched to your profile. (Results vary by individual.)

THE MECHANISM, STEP BY STEP

  • 01A firm gel for structure

Hyaluronic acid binds water and adds volume, and for the chin a firmer, higher-support gel is chosen so it holds its shape against the bone and gives the tip projection.

  • 02Placed deep at the chin tip

The gel sits deep against the bone at the tip (pogonion), delivered by fine needle or blunt cannula, with a smoothing layer above to soften the small grooves beside the chin.

  • 03Immediate but temporary

Projection shows the same day because the gel physically fills the space; over the following months the body gradually breaks the HA down, so the effect is not permanent.

  • 04Adjustable and reversible

Because it is HA, the result can be added to gradually, or dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if an adjustment is ever needed.

Treatment areas

What the procedure is like

  1. 1Consultation and assessment of the profile and jawline
  2. 2Cleansing, marking and topical numbing for comfort
  3. 3Firm HA placed deep at the chin tip, smoothed with a cannula if needed
  4. 4Review of the profile and aftercare guidance

Time: A session usually takes about 15–30 minutes.

Recovery & aftercare

  • Little downtime; most people return to daily activities the same day.
  • Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising may occur and usually settles within about 1–2 weeks.
  • Avoid pressing on the chin, and skip saunas and intense exercise for a day or two as we advise.

What to expect over time

A general guide to how the days and months after treatment usually unfold. Results vary by individual.

  1. DAY 0 Treatment day

Projection is visible immediately. Mild swelling, redness or tenderness is common, and the chin can look fuller or firmer than the final result at first.

  2. DAY 1-3 Early settling

Most swelling eases and any bruising begins to fade. Makeup and normal skincare can usually resume as advised.

  3. WEEK 1-2 Settled result

Swelling resolves and the true profile and chin shape become clear. (Results vary by individual.)

  4. 12-24 MONTHS Duration

A firm gel in this deep, low-movement area often lasts around 12–24 months, varying with the product and your metabolism. (Results vary by individual.)

  5. TOP-UP Review & maintenance

Your doctor reviews the result and, if appropriate, discusses timing for a top-up based on your profile.

Sessions & results

Projection appears right away and settles over about 1–2 weeks. Because the chin is a deep, low-movement area and a firm gel is used, results here often last around 12–24 months, though this varies with product and metabolism. A top-up is discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

How it compares

These all add projection or structure to the chin, but they work in different ways and suit different goals. Very large changes may be better suited to surgery. The right choice is decided after we assess your profile.

Safety & considerations

Possible reactions

  • Temporary swelling, redness or a feeling of firmness
  • Tenderness or bruising at the injection points
  • Small lumps or slight unevenness, which usually settle or can be smoothed
  • Very rarely, filler affecting a blood vessel — this needs prompt medical attention

When to take extra care

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — let us know at consultation
  • Active skin infection, inflammation or a breakout in the treatment area
  • A known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine
  • Previous filler, an implant or surgery in the area — tell your doctor so placement can be planned
  • A bleeding tendency or blood-thinning medication — tell your doctor

Whether chin filler suits you, and the right amount, are confirmed during consultation; very large changes may be better suited to surgery. Effects and their duration vary by individual, and side effects may occur. We explain the warning signs — unusual pain, or skin turning pale or dusky — so you know to contact us promptly.

Frequently asked questions

  • Projecting the chin tip can balance the profile with the nose and lips, and can make a short chin look longer. Very large changes may be better with surgery. (Results vary by individual.)

  • Chin filler shapes and projects the chin itself; it does not remove fat under the chin. If a double chin is the concern, we can discuss other options at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

  • A topical anesthetic is applied first, and many HA fillers contain a local anesthetic. Most people feel pressure and brief discomfort. Comfort options are discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

  • Often around 12–24 months, as the chin is deep, moves little and a firm gel is used — though it varies with product and metabolism. A top-up is discussed at consultation. (Results vary by individual.)

  • Yes. HA filler can be adjusted or dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. We discuss this option during consultation.

Often considered together

Treatments that are sometimes planned alongside this one, decided at consultation.

Nose Filler

Balancing the chin with the nose can improve the overall side profile more than treating one area alone.

Marionette Line Filler

Supporting the chin beside the mouth corners is often planned together with chin projection.

Botulinum toxin for chin dimpling

A dimpled, orange-peel chin texture from an overactive muscle is addressed with botulinum toxin, which filler alone does not target.
